Surkhet: The Karnali Province Police Office in Surkhet has unveiled a Quick Response (QR) code as part of its tech-savvy approach to enhance police services. Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Bhim Prasad Dhakal, Chief of the office, introduced the QR code in Birendranagar on Tuesday.

Designed to facilitate easy access to police services for citizens, the QR code will serve as a platform for collecting grievances, problems, and constructive suggestions. DIG Dhakal emphasized its utility, stating, "We will provide details on whether or not the complaints received through the code were implemented."

Under the 'Safe Karnali Special Campaign,' the police office has undertaken various initiatives, including posting stickers in 227,424 houses, implementing a victim aid program, conducting interactive patrols, promoting a passenger-friendly free application writing system, mobilizing citizen facilitators, and launching an awareness campaign against drug abuse.

With the introduction of the QR code, citizens in Karnali can now easily lodge complaints related to law and order issues from anywhere using technology. To ensure confidentiality, the police will keep the names of complainants confidential. The grievances received through the QR code will be categorized as 'most urgent,' 'urgent,' and 'general,' with corresponding timelines for redressal.

The police office commits to an immediate response for 'most urgent' complaints, while investigations on 'urgent' cases may take up to three days, and details on 'general' cases will be provided within five days. The implementation of the QR code is anticipated to foster closer citizen-state engagement, enhance public trust in security measures, ensure effective service delivery, and address issues in the provision of services.

Statistics from the office indicate that 7,262 people have benefited from interactive patrols, 200,000 from the passenger-friendly campaign, and 1,565 from the free application writing program.
